The Cultural Reference i am writing about is Marvel and DC comic references
Marvel/DC comics help develop Oscars character as shown on page 45 by saying "Did he stop reading his Andre Norton books and even lose interest in the final issue of Watchmen, which were unfolding in the illest way? Yes." I believe he referenced comic books here because he made it clear earlier in the book how much he loved comics, but to show us how he loves girls the most.

In an article on comicsalliance.com ut describes Junot Diaz's love for comics and also stated "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, the titular character is a young Dominican boy growing up in New Jersey who is obsessed with comics, science fiction, and fantasy (The title of the first chapter is "Ghetto Nerd at the End of the World"), and is a reflection of the writer's own lifelong interests".
